Ever since I saw promo photos of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and saw how beautiful Princess Aurora’s blue dress was, I knew that it was a dream cosplay! It wasn’t until 2022 that I actually decided to make it. This was mainly because I had the amazing opportunity of being sponsored by Lincraft and they had the perfect lace for this dress. Lace is usually very expensive and therefore usually also outside my budget. So thank you Lincraft for making this project possible!

The dress is made from a lightweight cotton voile for the base dress, based on a simple Butterick medieval pattern (B4377). It’s great because this first layer is very soft against the skin and also machine washable (score!). Over top of the base layer, there is purple netting, a stiff tulle skirt, and a combination of soft tulle and the lace. Finally the belt is made from light green cord and white leaf trim. As I’m sure you would’ve guessed, all fabrics and trims are from Lincraft and upon checking the store a couple weeks ago (in 2023), they still have all the exact same fabrics so you could totally make this yourself if you wanted to! The construction process is available to Patreon supporters.

This dress was made over a couple months. I would guestimate that it took somewhere between 40-50 hours all up to make. Super happy with it, and it is easily one of my most comfortable cosplays!
